Today we drove Highway 1 from Santa Monica to Carmel! We were stuck in stand still traffic for a while..we thought it was an accident...but they had shut down the road to shoot a movie scene!!! Incredible!
Madonna Inn was where we stopped for lunch in San Luis Opispo...We had NO idea! It is a landmark in the area. Fabulous food, but the Inn itself so sooooooooo unique! 109 rooms that are all decorated in different themes. One is the Caveman room....made of all boulders!! One has a stage coach around the bed, some have diferent nationality themes, and others have love themes...I can't imagine. And this is a REALLY nice place! Larry said the men's restroom had a trough to use and then the whole wall of water came down to flush!!! Pink is their signature color. Even the COKE machines upstairs are pink!!
Back on Highway 1, we saw lots of workers in the fields picking tomatoes, lettuce, and cauliflower. Touring the Hearst castle as on our list, but they had stopped all tours at 3:30. So we continued on the windy curvy road through Big Sur and on to Carmel.....one of my most favorite places in the whole world!
