Can you believe January is almost gone!! I have all these things I swore I would do this winter and I have done NONE of them!! My TOP TEN list of Things Not Accomplished Yet
1. Clean out all my closets and PITCH
2. Redecorate/refurbish the kitchen
3. Go through all the school stuff I brought home and PITCH
4. Enroll in some art classes.....watercolor maybe
5. Watch the videos we got for Christmas....25 Years of Saturday Night Live Music and The Waltz.
6. Begin scrapbooking on a massive scale.
7. Diet and exercise.........exercise and diet..........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
8. Learn how to operate the features of our new vehicle.....We had to replace our totaled BMW with SOMEthing. We chose a silver Mercedes 350 SUV. Easy to drive and LOTS of cargo room inside!
9. Giving dinner parties for our friends.
10. Checking out some community theater auditions.........
YIKES!!! What a slug I have become! So I need to get off my caboose and get moving!!
We did have fun last weekend! Our neighbor Marty was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for our local high school. Our neighborhood friends gathered at the high school basketball game to surprise him with WILD CHEERING when the award was given. After the game, we all gathered at the local watering hole to congratulate Marty. It's been a long time since I saw a high school bb game. I was struck by the difference between high school and college roundball skills. Incredible!
Larry and I have been fascinated with the political scene and the primary elections so far. Both parties have their engines running. We enjoy the strategies, the commentary, and the outcomes of the elections so far. It leads to some spitited discussions here! Super Duper Tuesday is coming soon....I will be flying to Florida that day so I will have to catch the returns in Naples. Ohio's primary isn't until March 5th....Will our votes even matter? Who do YOU think will be the final candidates? Mitt, John, or Hillarack Oblinton? Let me hear from you!

RETIRED...........REWIRED.........REFIRED UP
One of the items on my THINGS TO DO WHEN I RETIRE list was to join a book discussion group. This week I attended one just to see what it was like.....and I LOVED it. They were discussing a book titled We Need to Talk about Kevin. Interesting intelligent discussion...and I jumped in a little even though I hadn't read the book... and guess what? They asked me to join...so I did! The girl sitting next to me loaned me her copy of the book with the stipulation that when I finished, I would call her so we could dicuss it for a half hour! She wrote her name down......Judy Herbstreit....Kurt's mom...(former Centerville quarterback, former OSU quarterback, presently a TV sports announcer!)
Our next book is The Girl from Purple Mountain........I already have my copy and will begin it just as soon as I finish Clapton...about the famous Erik! One of my classroom mothers sent me a great book, The Blue Highways, after we returned from our Route 66 trip. Its about a fellow who travels all over the USA on the little minor roads, the ones colored blue on maps. He did just what we did, traveled without a schedule, ate at local places, and tried to meet the hometown folks! Thanks Barb! If any of you read these books PLEASE let me know your opinion!! I just LOVE to read!
Alsoooooooooo this week, my movie and lunch bunch met in an emergency session to catch the opening of 17 Dresses. Funny movie! Not one that Larry would have cared for, but it made me laugh right out loud.......Go see it with some girls!
Finally, our friends Leigh Ann and Marty's son Andy was married this weekend in Columbus! Beautiful black and white wedding (even the guests) .and a MOST FUN reception! Hang On Sloopy O H I O was a popular song!! Outside was below zero, but inside was toasty warm wih love for family and friends! Have an exceptionally happy life Andy and Ashley!

PRICELESS
Wright State lost a heartbreaker this week....in the last .5 second of the game! Pretty exhilarating game actually with all the spirited yelling from our ROWDY section. We have all been sitting in this section together forever......so anything goes!!! Our next few games are on the road...Maybe we will do better....Our team has had a lot of injuries....
My Movie and Lunch Bunch met Friday at Bravos....and I forgot my camera. I opted not to go to the movie after lunch..........a big mistake I think. They went to see Atonement...then I read the review in the paper today... think I missed a good one. We are having an emergency M+LB on the 18th to catch the opening of 17 Dresses!
Instead I went shopping for a baby shower gift for the daughter of a friend of mine. She was registered at Babies R Us......That store makes me CRAZY........their gift registry isn't updated, the items are not really organized in the store, and there is a absence of personnel to help you. AAAUUUGGGHHH. But it sure was fun looking at all the new little baby goodies!!
I zipped over to Barnes and Noble to buy a baby book. Two middle school aged girls came in the store talking too loudly. Suddenly one of them did a cartwheel right in the center aisle!! No one in the store said anything. Soon there was screaming form a back corner of the store. No one in the store said anything. Next they were running up and down the book aisles! Again, no store employee intervened. As they came up the main area where I was, one did another cartwheel. I just couldn't help myself. It must be that teacher in me leaping out.
"Your behavior is inappropriate", I said to them as they passed me. The look on their faces was shock.......priceless. They quietly paid for an item and left the store. Alright who thinks I was out of line?

CHECKING THINGS OFF
The week after New Years and I am not working! Seems strange to be retired...er rewired, but the week was so full of fun happenings and the completion of tasks too long put off till later.
Fun stuff this week included breakfast with Judy who I had worked with for years, an elegant couples wedding shower, and a spirited Ohio State/ LSU party where Larry could be heard cheering and moaning loudly! Add to that taking Mom to dinner on Monday and working some on that pesky jigsaw puzzle she has going on her dining room table....we just can't leave it alone... I also made a trip into the Kettering Board of Education offices to sign final IRS forms and a visit to the Kettering Education Foundation offices to set up my annual scholarship for a Fairmont senior who used to be one of my fifth graders.
Not so fun stuff was having our heat pump replaced after our lightning strike...we just keep finding things that aren't working..., having plumbing problems at the apartments, and taking down the Christmas trees
Putting away the Christmas decorations has been a hastily done process in the past. Usually done after we returned from vacation and right before I had to be back to work, but not THIS year! I was able to sort, pitch, and reorganize all our Christmas things! I hope I can find stuff next year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Another new year! They seem to be coming so much faster now...........SLOW DOWN!
It seems so strange to be home this week after Christmas. We generally are in warm Kiawah, SC this week. On NYE, we are used to being with our family watching the fireworks over the Atlantic Ocean as we sit on the boardwalk burying our bare toes in the sand. BUT NOT THIS YEAR. Because I am rewired, we do not HAVE to travel over the holidays any longer unless we choose to. But... it still feels odd.
Instead, on the 28th, we all went to Jenny's new home and enjoyed a meal she prepared for us using old family recipes. It was wonderful! Papaw Pete's special roast beef and Grandma Holland's wilted lettuce salad. YUM What a great new tradition!! Her tree was magnificant! It used to be our big tree but it never looked this good at OUR house! She also used the new table accessories we got her for Christmas. After dinner she hooked our laptop up to a basketball game streaming and we were able to watch Wright State win the Dr Pepper Tounament in Chattanooga on her TV!! GO RAIDERS! WOOHOO!
My brother Bill traveled back from Michigan to visit with us the day before New Years. Our whole family gathered again at Mom's and enjoyed each other. We played games, worked jigsaw puzzles, and just chatted away the evening.
New Years Eve was at the country club with old and new friends, dancin' music, and great food. HAPPY 2008 EVERYONE!
