BOGEY HOLLAND 11/06/2001- 08/23/2008

Now for the reason for my blogging absence......

While we were in Kiawah, our boy Bogey stayed with Jennie and his Golden cousins Lucy and Sarah. Jen said he wouldn't eat for her so she added "enticements" to his food ....cheese...O'Doules..... When we got home, he wouldn't eat for us either, so we took him to see Dr. Joe. We discovered he had Golden Retriever Degenerative Kidney Disease. He had maybe had this all his life and just adapted to it. We were directed to a veterinary internist in Cincinnati who did a kidney biopsy, an ultrasound, and juggled medicines and blood tests. We helped at home giving IVs twice a day. He improved for a while, but after six weeks he drove his red Jeep to Heaven and God was waiting.
We miss him terribly...........

Six and a half years ago Bogey was a surprise Christmas present for Larry from the girls and me. Since Larry is a golfer, and we had put "one over" on him, Bogey was a perfect name. The girls and I had traveled to Indiana four weeks before to select him at the breeder's. We had wanted a female, but he won our hearts with puppy kisses. Bogey was an incredibly small ball of gold fur who grew inches each day! He ended up HUGE.....140 pounds! He loved loved loved to ride in Larry's red Jeep...the Bogey Bus. We both thought he drove it around while we were at work. Whenever I would walk him, a neighbor would inevitably say, "Who's walking who?" For being so big, Bogey loved to be in tiny places. He would squeeze under the desk or make up table if you were there. He loved his puppy cage even though he had outgrown it. We loved his funny little idiosyncrasies ...some more than others ....not swallowing completely when he drank water, snuggling with me on the love seat even though he took up most of it, curling up under Larry's recliner when he was in it and trapping him, collecting bags and bags of fur when he was brushed, and loving tomatoes with a passion...Mater Dog!!

We love you Bogey. Thanks for your unconditional love and for being such an important part of our life.

ALL RIGHT ALL RIGHT....I"M BACK

I know......I know....... it has been a long spell since I have blogged.... I left off during our last trip to Kiawah in June/July with Kristie and Justin. Justin had a fun time exploring the island on his bike around all the trails. We all enjoyed celebrating the Fourth of July there. Fireworks on the beach was my all time favorite!

Over Labor Day, we babysit our grand dog, Lucy and her best friend, Bubba. We had a wonderful time with them for a week while Jen took a well deserved vacation. Lucy and Bubba went to dinner with us at Dottie's and then Dottie and her sweet Bentley came to visit.

More later..........

KIAWAH READS

Kiawah Reads is a monthly book club whose June authors were Caroline Cousins, a psuedonym for three 1 1/2 cousins (their mothers are sisters and their fathers are first cousins)who have written three non serious southern murder mysteries together! Kind of a Nancy Drew trio..... The last in the trilogy is Way Down Dead In Dixie.

They talked about how they write as a team, where they get ideas, and hysterical happenings on book selling tours! Only two of them spoke...the other lives in Atlanta...but they were adorable!
