We were traveling through Chenoa, IL (pop 800) and I had just said to Larry, "I wonder what the old time 66ers did for entertainment as they traveled these roads?" and...........
BAM!
A lady from Georgia who was supposed to be traveling 35 miles/hour slammed into us as we were going through an intersection, completely totaled our car, and spun around and her car turned over a trailer on another vehicle!!! It was all over before either of us was even scared. The EMTs loaded Larry onto a gurney and checked him out at the hospital...he has a bump and cut on his head...and some pain in his left side. But everyone in all vehicles involved walked away under their own power...........whew!
The biggest problem was getting back to our car which had been towed away with all our stuff inside. The town of Chenoa or Pontiac (where the hospital was) have no taxis and the car rentals close at noon. YIKES We were stuck at the hospital!! After getting everything together with our insurance man, we found a man in Normal, IL who drove a Checker taxi 30 miles to pick us up. Tim was our ANGEL! He took us back to the scene so we cound get pictures...he actually took pics for us as he had his camera in the car...he freelances as a photographer! Then he took us to the impound lot where Kevin specially arranged to meet us so we cound unload our car into the taxi....THEN he drove us to the small regional airport in Normal so we could rent a car, he WAITED for us to rent a car and then unloaded our stuff!!! and THEN we followed him into an area that had hotels. A MILLION THANK YOUS TIM!
After sleeping 10 hours, getting ourselves calmed down, and realizing we were a little sore but basically just fine, we went back to the airport and rented a silver Trailblazer to CONTINUE our trip!
And I always thought Normal was just a setting on your dryer!
