A pleasant surprise is the price of gas in South Carolina... I think EVERYTHING, happens a little slower here y'all......
We took a tour of the Citadel which is in the city. The Citadel is the South Carolina Military College and was started in 1842 to protect the city of Charleston. Today it has 3000 students (cadets) and has been the topic of books by Pat Conroy.
The Hunley is the famous Confederate Civil War submarine that was the first sub to sink an enemy (Union) ship. It was discovered and brought to the surface in 1995 along with the seven crewmen who have been buried with the ship since 1863! Amazing exhibit! The ship is kept underwater at the Navy shipyard to desalinate it. They don't allow pics of the actual Hunley, but the museum has replicas...even one actual size.... Larry tried his hand as a crewman! They reconstructed the faces of the actual crewmen by using their skulls! AND Larry's new best friend, Jackie, veteran of WWII and Vietnam!
